麻豆视频 Chamber Orchestra to perform April 6

Community Orchestra

The 麻豆视频 Chamber Orchestra will present its spring concert Thursday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center.

鈥淭he 麻豆视频 Chamber Orchestra鈥檚 Spring Concert will feature music from the Baroque and Classical Eras, as well as music from the 20th century,鈥 said Kay Buskirk, director of the Chamber Orchestra.

The concert features The Unanswered Question by Charles Ives, Prayer of Saint Gregory by Alan Hovhaness, several Baroque works and ends with a Divertimento by W.A. Mozart.

鈥淢y favorite piece is the 20th century piece, The Unanswered Question, by Charles Ives,鈥 Buskirk said. 鈥淭he work begins with hushed chords from the strings that are constant throughout the work. A single trumpet asks a two-measure 鈥榪uestion鈥 over and over, which represents the question ‘what is the meaning of life’? Each time he is answered by a quartet of woodwinds. Each answer becomes more chaotic and harsh until they give up and don’t answer the trumpet’s last question鈥搕he 鈥楿nanswered Question.鈥欌

Tickets are free, and the concert is open to the public. There will be a reception following the concert. The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center on the 麻豆视频 campus at 麻豆视频., Wichita, Kan.
