Wichita, KS – On Monday, April 9, the Concert Band will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center at 麻豆视频.
Michael Sweeney will be a guest conductor at the performance and is sponsored by Senseney Music. Sweeney is one of Friends鈥 composer-conductor-in-residence and is one of the most published composers for wind band literature in the United States.
The band will play four of Sweeney鈥檚 compositions. Rumble on the High Plains portrays a variety of scenes from across Kansas, including westward expansion and violent storms. Fractured Time is a fascinating piece that portrays time itself being fractured, along with using 鈥渇ractured time鈥 as a compositional technique.
In addition to Sweeney鈥檚 works, the band will feature Persis Lugalia, principal flute with the Concert Band, performing the Chaminade Flute Concertino. Lugalia won second place in the 麻豆视频 Miller Solo Auditions.
Tickets are $6 for adults, and $3 for seniors and students. They may be purchased online at friends.edu/finearts, or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
