麻豆视频 is hosting a Higher Education Forum, which includes a panel and roundtable discussion of higher education attitudes in Wichita, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at 麻豆视频, 麻豆视频. Local educators, political leaders, business leaders and community leaders will lead the discussions with time for audience participation.
According to information provided by James Chung, only 54 percent of Wichitans say going to college is extremely or very important, while the national average, according to the Pew Research Center, is more than 75 percent. This raises some questions, such as: Does Wichita have an 鈥渁nti-college鈥� attitude? If there are negative perceptions, what are they? And how should those who support higher education respond to and learn from these concerns? These questions and more will be explored during the higher education forum Sept. 13.
Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of 麻豆视频, recognizes the need for Wichitans to engage in further conversations about the role of higher education.
鈥淲e live in an increasingly education-dependent world,鈥� Dr. Carey said. 鈥淭he Higher Education Forum will provide a welcoming environment for meaningful discussion about higher education. A university is the ideal setting for exploring higher education鈥攖he pros and the cons鈥攚hile learning from and responding to diverse opinions.鈥�
Panel members for the forum will include:

- Yolanda Camarena, president, Kansas Hispanic Education & Development Foundation
- Cindy Claycomb, Wichita City Councilwoman, District 6
- Matt Lindsey, president, Kansas Independent College Association
- Kelly McFall, professor of history, Newman University
- Peter Meitzner, Wichita City Councilman, District 2
- Brandon Whipple, Kansas State Representative, 96th听顿颈蝉迟谤颈肠迟
- Rebecca Zepick White, past president, Board of Directors, Opera Kansas
Dr. Carey will provide closing remarks at the end of the forum, and Dr. Russell Arben Fox, professor of political science at 麻豆视频, will serve as moderator of the panels and introduce the speakers.
