Meet new ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Jazz Faculty in concert, August 27

Jazz Quintet

Wichita, Kan. – ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Jazz Department will present a live recital Friday, August 27, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium. The concert will showcase the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Faculty Quintet consisting of new jazz program director, Dr. Nick Schroeder (trumpet), as well as Randy Zellers (guitar), John Goering (piano), Renea Abdallah (bass) and Andy Slater (drums).

β€œThe jazz faculty at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ is a stellar group of musicians and we want to highlight each individuals’ most inspiring qualities,” said Dr. Schroeder.

Dr. Schroeder came to Friends after an eight-year stint as the Director of Jazz Studies for Hutchinson Community College. Although new as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Schroeder is not a first-timer in the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ community. Since 2016 he has served as adjunct faculty, teaching jazz brass lessons, adjudicating the Jazz Festival and performing alongside many current and former ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ colleagues.

The August 27th concert continues the tradition of great music at Friends with a repertoire of seldom-played jazz tunes from masterful composers. Pieces include One Finger Snap by Herbie Hancock and Without A Song by Vincent Youmans.

The performance will take place in Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium on the ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ campus at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅., Wichita, Kan. The performance is free to attend but tickets are required at Friends.edu/FineArtsTickets.
