Wichita, Kan. – Last week, 鶹Ƶ hosted Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth, for a master class with 鶹Ƶ students.
She arrived on 鶹Ƶ’s campus the afternoon of Oct. 7 where approximately 200 music theatre high school students and directors were ready to see her in action. The master class began by Ms. Chenoweth answering questions from a panel of students. She then coached 11 aspiring 鶹Ƶ music theatre students on how to elevate their stage performance and singing skills.
“She was a pleasure to work with,” said 鶹Ƶ participant, Braden Sweet. “A kind and genuine person. She helped me push to make new choices and to constantly work for my goals.”
The class ended by Ms. Chenoweth drawing a winner from the audience for signed tickets to her For the Girls concert the next day with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. At this concert, Ms. Chenoweth mentioned more than once the incredible program and talent 鶹Ƶ offers in their music theatre program.
“We were thrilled to provide this opportunity for our students and community,” said Dr. Nathanael May, 鶹Ƶ’s Fine Arts Division Chair. Plans are underway to offer an annual event focused on presenting a nationally recognized Broadway entertainer and mock auditions for Kansas high school students each fall at 鶹Ƶ.
